Metro (Metrorail)
Washington, D.C. has an extensive Metrorail system operated by WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority). It consists of six color-coded lines: Red, Blue, Orange, Silver, Green, and Yellow. Metrorail is one of the most efficient ways to travel within the city and to nearby suburbs.
Metrobus
WMATA also operates Metrobus services, which complement the Metrorail system. Metrobus covers a wide area within D.C. and its suburbs. You can use a SmarTrip card to pay for both Metrorail and Metrobus fares.Cycling
